Portrait of Clémentine (1845)
Henri Lehmann: Portrait of Clémentine (Mrs. Alphonse) Karr
This is certainly one of the most interesting portraits I've seen. You have to wonder if this look is what the lady had in mind when she posed for the portrait. She looks...dangerous.

Portrait of Marie d'Agoult (1843)
Henri Lehmann: Portrait of Marie d'Agoult
This interesting lady was an author who published under a male name ("Daniel Stern"); among her works is a three-volume history of the French Revolution. She was also a long-term mistress of Franz Liszt and had three children by him.

Portrait of Franz Liszt (1839)
Henri Lehmann: Portrait of Franz Liszt
Lehmann was German-born but studied with Ingres and worked in France, eventually becoming a French citizen. He painted this portrait during a brief stay in Rome when he befriended Liszt and his lover Marie d'Agoult (he did her portrait a few years later - stay tuned).
